Voting in Tennessee
Tennessee citizens over the age of 18 can register to vote. When you vote, you help elect the people who make the laws that affect your life. There are many issues that affect people with disabilities. Your vote is an important way to let your voice be heard.
REGISTER TO VOTE
Are you registered to vote? If you are not sure, you can look up your status on the Secretary of State’s website. Check your voter registration status. If you are not currently registered to vote, you can register online at the Secretary of State’s website. Register to vote.
WAYS TO VOTE
There are several ways to vote in elections. You can vote in-person during the early voting period. You can vote in-person on Election Day. And some people can vote with an absentee ballot through the mail.
Early Voting
When you Early Vote, you go into a polling site to vote in-person during the Early Voting period that begins and ends before Election Day. This time covers multiple days. This option may be a more accessible option for people who have challenging schedules on Election Day. Your Early Voting polling site may be different from your Election Day polling site. Voting In-Person on Election Day
You can choose to go in to a polling site to vote in-person on Election Day. You can find your polling site on the Secretary of State’s website. Find your polling place. One Election Days Disability Rights Tennessee surveys polling sites to be sure they are accessible. You can call Disability Rights Tennessee at 1-800-342-1660 if you have problems voting on Election Day.
Absentee Voting
Absentee Voting is available to many people with disabilities. To vote absentee you must first fill out a form to request an absentee ballot. You must request a ballot before a certain deadline ahead of Election Day. Request your absentee ballot through this website. You will then receive a ballot in the mail. Once you complete the ballot you must mail it back so it is received before Election Day. If you want to know if your ballot was received, you can check the Secretary of State’s website. Once you vote absentee you may not vote again in-person. First time voters may be able to vote absentee, but this rule may change. Contact your local Election Commission for more information about voting absentee. Find your local Election Commission on this website. If you have a print disability, you can request an accessible absentee ballot. This option is not yet fully accessible.
