Advocacy

DRT advocates for community access and inclusion for Tennesseans living with disabilities and/or mental illness. We are dedicated to advocating for their rights, providing support to strengthen their self-advocacy skills, and educating the community on how to be effective advocates, ensuring all voices are heard.

Disability Rights Tennessee recognizes that:

  • Disability is a natural part of the human experience.
  • Some disabilities are unseen and some are visible.
  • Having a disability should not limit full participation in daily activities including living, working, learning, or receiving services.

As the Protection & Advocacy (P&A) agency and Client Assistance Program (CAP) in Tennessee, DRT works to support stronger communities for everyone, including people living with disabilities and/or mental illness.

At DRT, we are driven by relationships. We are committed to sharing the experiences of our clients and community members and also offering resources, information, and guidance within our capacity. We advocate for Tennesseans living with disabilities and/or mental illness by raising awareness, providing education and self-advocacy resources, offering individual support, sharing stories, and taking legal action when necessary.
