Investigation of Abuse & Neglect

Tennesseans living with disabilities and/or mental illness who reside in facility or program settings can be vulnerable to abuse or neglect. If this is reported, DRT’s Investigator team steps in to make sure everyone is safe.

How We Help

Any form of abuse, neglect, or rights violations is unacceptable for any person, and it is particularly concerning for individuals living with disabilities and/or mental illness. When reports, complaints, or allegations are made in the state of Tennessee, DRT is mandated to investigate.

Through the review of records, policies, practices, interviews, and observations, DRT submits recommendations to address findings on both an individual and systemic level to prevent such issues from occurring in the future. DRT may take further actions to resolve ongoing issues on a case-by-case basis, such as advocacy, complaint filing, or policy initiatives.

DRT works daily to conduct investigations on behalf of individuals while striving to create systemic changes that can improve the lives of many.
